Failure BOO creates black smoke and power outage

rook-islaWILLEMSTAD – On Sunday July 7, black smoke pulled up above the refinery-terrain. The smoke was caused by failure of the BOO-central. The BOO is responsible for delivering electricity to the refinery. Because of this failure at BOO, not only the refinery was without power but also many households all over the island.

According to a press release from the government, the fuel supply to BOO stopped which caused the plant to stop producing water and electricity.

The consequence was that gases were not cleaned the right way and this resulted in black smoke. Large parts of the island encountered nuisance thereby and also different areas of the island had problems with electricity this morning. It can take a few days before the refinery is fully operational.
