Focus on red and green lane at the airport

AirportWILLEMSTAD – The Curacao Customs Services presented the new red and green lanes at the airport. Arriving passengers who have nothing to declare may follow the green lane; those who have products to declare must follow the red lane.

Goods to declare are:

  • Sums of 20,000 guilders or more or its equivalent in foreign currency;
  • Goods with a value of more than 200 guilders;
  • Goods for which they have a permit or exemption, such as arms and ammunition;
  • Products that fall under the Opium Act;
  • Imitation products;
  • Dead or live animals;
  • Animal products;
  • Bread and butter;
  • Plants and flowers.

Passengers who choose the green path should be aware that they can still get a routine check on their luggage. At that time, the baggage will go through the scanner and if any goods are found which should have been declared, then this is considered to be premeditated. There is a penalty of 300 percent of the import duties.

According to customs, the new system is designed to run the arrival of passengers smoothly. Not every luggage has to go through the scanner anymore so it will ease the long lines, especially during peak hours.
