Hernandez: Pressure tank was a “fast ball”

ParliamentWILLEMSTAD – The Director of the Saint Elizabeth Hospital (SEHOS), Javier Hernandez has declared this morning in a public meeting of Parliament, that the pressure tank was a “fast ball”. Hernandez mentioned different dates and explained what happened on these days.

Hernandez explained how he had to go to WTC on March 26, 2012 for an official presentation in which the then Prime Minister, Gerrit Schotte was present, the Minister of Health, the Director of the University located in the WTC building and representatives of the Curacao Medical Center. During the presentation he was surprised and was told that he had to sign an agreement. A few days later SEHOS sent a letter saying that they were not satisfied with how things went and that the signature of one Director was not sufficient.

“The Government gave five million guilders in 2012. Three million were for investments and two for maintenance. Afterwards the Ministry of Finance called and said that he can take from the two million, 300.000 guilders to rebuild the place for the pressure tank which was still a “gift”. One day that I can never forget was July 19, when they called me to come to the office of the Minister of Health. There we heard that there was no “gift”. For me this was a “fast ball”.

This public meeting was suspended to give the Minister of Health the opportunity to study some documents.
