Less income reason layoffs UTS

UTSWILLEMSTAD – The public company United Telecommunication Services (UTS), through its CEO, Paul de Geus, gave a press conference yesterday afternoon to explain about the layoffs at the company.

“These layoffs are inevitable since income has been on a decrease for the last few years. There is no other choice but to layoff a third of the current staff,” according to De Geus.

The company has planned to cut salaries, but the unions did not agree to this. The union Sitcom does not agree with the layoffs either. They are still meeting with the members to see what their course of action will be.

According to the Minister responsible for the telecommunication company, Earl Balborda, the Supervisory Board at UTS must give a full report to the government on how this situation came to be. Paul de geus
