Logos Hope brings international crew

LOGOS2WILLEMSTAD - Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, will soon bring its international crew with their life-changing stories to Willemstad, Curacao. After so many years away from this region, crewmembers are excited to return and anticipate an unforgettable time.

Eileen Rijke from Curacao was one of the ship’s international crewmembers, having served on Logos Hope from September 2013 until September 2015. She first worked in the cleaning department and changed roles to the reception desk after one year.

Originally from the Mahuma neighborhood in Curaçao, Eileen has great memories of her time on the ship and is excited to welcome Logos Hope into her home country. “I learned onboard to esteem others better than myself. It’s good to find out why so many people of different nationalities have decided to give up their lifestyles to bring hope to the world. It’s absolutely a life-changing experience.”

There are 400 volunteers on the ship from over 60 nations, leaving behind families, jobs, and homes. The crew offersLOGOS1 a unique example of unity in cultural diversity. Some come with qualifications to fill specific roles such as engineering officers, plumbers, carpenters, bookkeepers, cooks, and other professionals; many young people come with no qualifications except a willingness to serve. Although they have different backgrounds, the crewmembers agree on a common goal: serving people through social service projects and good literature.

MV Logos Hope is operated by GBA Ships e.V., an international, charitable organization registered in Germany. Since 1970, the organization has welcomed over 45 million visitors up the gangways in over 150 countries and territories around the world.
