Navy ship to remain in the Caribbean

Zr.Ms-Zeeland-vaart-AnnabaaiTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch government is not in favor of withdrawing its navy ships from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom to stop refugees in the Mediterranean.

This is according to the Dutch Minister of Defense, Jeanine Hennis-Plsschaert in her reply to the questions from the Member of Parliament Thiery Baudet of the Forum for Democracy. The MP wanted to know if the Minister shares the view that the Netherlands would its strength by assigning the navy ship Zr.Ms Zeeland to the Mediterranean Sea where its presence is more required than in the Caribbean.

The station ship is available to assist the Coast Guard in the Caribbean for the execution of law enforcement duties. The ship is an important link in the coast guard chain to carry out these tasks. In view of developments in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, the Dutch Government believes that the presence of this ship is required.
