New cells for Juvenile Detention Center

JJICWILLEMSTAD – Construction of eight new cells for the Juvenile Detention Center (JJIC) will begin next week Monday. These cells will be built in a separate building on the JJIC property. The construction will take about five months to complete and will be delivered on November 17 of this year.

The costs of this new construction are about 1.2 million guilders and is partially financed by the JJIC itself and the Crime Funds. The Dutch finance organization USONA will manage the funds for this project.

The JJIC, as part of the Government of Curacao, resorts under the Law Enforcement sector of the Ministry of Justice and its inextricably linked to the vision and mission of the Department. Also the Convention on Rights of the Child and the Convention on Human Rights form the basis for the design of the vision and policy of the JJIC.
