New seismograph for Meteorological Service

seismograaf-meteo-417x313WILLEMSTAD - The Meteorological Service has a new seismograph in their building located at Seru Mahuma. With this device, the Meteo can record all earthquakes on the Leeward Islands. The device is maintained together with the Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI)

Also the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, responsible for the Caribbean, can use the data to determine whether there is a likelihood of a tsunami in the region during a powerful earthquake. The seismograph was purchased with funds managed by USONA. There will also be a risk analysis of flooding as part of the same project. S​several automatic weather and coastal stations will be installed at strategic locations.
