‘Politur’ not at the expense of ‘normal’ police deployment

Curacao policeWILLEMSTAD - Politur will start operating on November 1 of this year and is designed to assist tourists in Curacao. Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro and Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, Stanley Palm have initiated a special unit for tourism. A working group has been assigned since August 2 of this year to prepare the ‘tourist police’.

According to team leader Humphrey Josefa it is not yet known how much manpower is available for Politur, but he knows that this will not be at the expense of the 'normal' use of police officers. The budget is nevertheless small, says Josefa, and the intention is that the project will be funded publicly and privately.

A conference will be held this coming Thursday for all captains of industry to warm them up for Politur. They need to know that this project is important for the tourism industry, which in turn is important for the Curacao economy, Josefa declared.
