Precision operation brings Vlissings dry dock in Willemstad

DamenWILLEMSTAD - With a precision operation, Damen Shipyards delivered a dry dock of 230 meters long and 45 wide at the shipyard of Curaçao this weekend. The dock has served for years in Vlissingen.

In addition to the Vlissingense dock, a smaller dry dock from Pernis has also been taken. The arrival of the two floating docks is part of the investments of the Dutch shipbuilder in the Curaçao yard. The yard in Willemstad was taken over last year.

Two-meter difference

The precision operation was related to the height of the Juliana Bridge over the St. Anna Bay in Willemstad. The bay itself is wide enough, but the bridge measures 56 meters. That is only 2 meters higher than the carrier with which the docks were brought in.

Damen Shipyards hopes to attract mainly Asian customers to Willemstad, which will sail along Curaçao and are active in the region. Container ships, oil and gas tankers, but also smaller tugs and the navy fleet, which has its base next to the yard in Willemstad. The new docks will be operational in August.
