Prime Minister visits U.S. Air Force base

asjes-fol-300x225WILLEMSTAD – By special invitation from the Consul General of the United States, Jim Moore, Prime Minister Ivar Asjes realized an informative visit to the Forward Operation Location (FOL) at the Hato airport on July 25 of this year.

Prime Minister Asjes received a presentation by the FOL Commander, lieutenant Colonel Stephen Reny and the FOL Director of Operations, Major John Motley. According to this presentation the Forward Operation Location here in Curacao supports the regional efforts against drug trafficking and contributes substantially to the economy of Curacao.

Prime Minister Asjes did not want to comment on his visit to the base. It is known that his party Pueblo Soberano (PS) is against the American base in Curacao. The late leader of the party, Helmin Wiels, has fulminated against the FOL on various occasions.

The last PS member who has visited the FOL was Elmer Wilsoe, when he was serving as Minister of Justice. Wilsoe supported the presence of the base here in Curacao at that time.
