Public and private tourism sector must work together more efficiently

MilesWILLEMSTAD - In order to reverse the decline in the tourist sector, a restructuring of the Curaçao Tourism Development Foundation (CTDF) board has to be made.

Thus, the private sector must also have a role and control in the policy and implementation of tourism on the island. This is according to CHATA CEO Miles Mercera. According to Mercera, a better cooperation between the private and public sectors will have a positive impact on tourism.

This declaration is following the resignation of Jeanette Bonet as chairman of the Curaçao Tourism Development Foundation. She submitted her resignation following a letter sent from CHATA in May this year where the association stated that they no longer wanted her to be the chairman. The members of the CHATA organization had problems with her functioning in the CTDF.

Mercera indicated in a radio interview that his organization doesn’t really care who is at the helm of the CTDF but that they want to see progress. But the person who is in charge of the CTDF must have the mandate and the responsibility to execute the tourism plan.
