Kura HulandaWILLEMSTAD – The closing of Kura Hulanda Hotel is a loss for the hotel collection of Sandton. This is according to the hotel operator on its website. Sandton has carried since 2011 the management of the hotel which was set up by businessman Jacob Gelt Dekker. Last Friday, the hotel was declared bankrupt and got 110 people on the street. Kura Lodge West Point is still open, but they also requested deferment of payment.

Meanwhile the union Horecaf decided to give a helping hand to the employees. According to the union, these employees are not members of the organization but they would not leave them out in the cold. This is according to Kenneth Valpoort, president of the union.

Today the employees met with the union to discuss the state of affairs. “After we received the news about the bankruptcy we met with Minister Stanley Palm (Economic Development). We asked him if he can arrange for a fund to pay these people since they will not receive a salary at the end of this month,” Valpoort declared.
