Staff Plaza Hotel wants bankruptcy

Plaza HotelWILLEMSTAD - The staff of the Curaçao Plaza Hotel & Casino want the two companies that manage the hotel and the casino to be declared bankrupt by the Court of Justice.

In this way, the employees hope to secure their severance payment by the Social Insurance Bank (SVB).

That was decided on Tuesday after a meeting convened by the Horecaf trade union. "We are now waiting for a lawyer's answer about the steps we need to take to request bankruptcy," said Horecaf President Kenneth Valpoort.

The auction of the building in which the hotel and the casino are housed will not be endangered, said Valpoort.

According to Valpoort, the 52 employees and 9 part-time workers employed at the hotel and casino have no option other than requesting bankruptcy.

The staff have not been paid since mid-May, but a new owner is not required to pay their salaries.
