The Consular Corps of Curaçao has a new board

ConsulsWILLEMSTAD - On January 12th, at the Avila Hotel during the annual general membership meeting, the members of the Consular Corps of Curaçao have chosen their new board for the year 2015.

After more than two decades, the Consular Corps of Curaçao has a career consul as Dean. Mrs. Anne-Marie Pietersz-Powell, Vice Consul General of the United Kingdom. The other members elected to represent the Corps are: Mr. James Moore, Consul General of the United States, vice-dean,  Mrs. Kathryn Pruneti Honorary Consul of Italy, secretary; Mr. Christian Peterson, Honorary Consul of Poland, treasurer and Mr. Michel Koch, Honorary Consul of Switzerland, member.

Mrs. Helga Mensing, immediate past dean, will also be part of the board as a member.

After holding the elections, Mr. R. Willems, acting dean of the Consular Corps, gave the floor to Mrs. Pietersz who first reflected on the terrible atrocities in Paris last week and commended the French Consul for hosting the gathering last Friday at the Consulate.

Her first words of gratitude were for the outgoing board and especially the immense work Mrs. Helga Mensing did during more than 20 years that she has been guiding the association. Mrs. Pietersz-Powell explained that she accepts this challenge with pleasure counting on the expert advice of Mrs. Mensing who retired in August after having accomplished many of her goals, working for the benefit of both career and honorary consuls.

Afterwards the newly elected dean thanked the rest of members for having the trust and confidence in the new board and presented her program for the year 2015. This includes an informative workshop with local authorities in cooperation with the Directorate of Foreign Affairs  the celebration of The United Nations Day and the organization of the International bazaar on International Children’s day.

“The new board is committed to supporting fellow Consuls and Consulates in their respective diplomatic outreach by building good relationships with the government, with local authorities and also the community by means of our cultural endeavors”.
