Unions will continue with the national strike day

UnionsWILLEMSTAD – The national strike, called by the unions, will continue as planned on Wednesday. Consultations with the government failed. This is according to the seven unions, STTSK, STRaF, SAP, NAPB, Curatca and ABVO during their press conference. All civil servants will meet on Wednesday to receive more information on the course of action.

The meeting is from 8:00 pm at the New Song - building in Muizenberg. Minister Etienne van der Horst of Policy, Planning and Services is therefore also invited. It is intended that the parties will continue to talk . It is not yet certain if the planned meeting will continue.

Pay raise

Van der Horst announced that the government wants to stop the pay raise for the next two years. The unions do not agree with this measure. According to the president of the teachers’ union, SITEK, Mr. Darius Plantijn, on October 19, the union submitted its plans and alternatives to the Council of Ministers and to Parliament, but to this day they have not received a reply. “There is no respect for the trade unionists and supporters. Tomorrow, we will show that we demand respect.” Public institutions which cannot go on strike, such as the police, will run on skeleton staff.
