USA Dept. of State: “Look at role of government officials in illegal sex industry Curaçao”

prostitutionWILLEMSTAD - Another important note on the Human Trafficking Report which was recently released by the U.S. Department of State is that U.S. considers that the Government of Curaçao must conduct an investigation into the involvement of its own civil servants in street and snack bar prostitution.

According to the report, there would be trafficking in women in these cases. Apparently, the Department of States is referring to some recent case about a Venezuelan National that was promised work on the island. This Venezuelan lady ended up at a snack bar working as a prostitute. Some police officers were arrested in this case.

Curaçao remains in the fight against human trafficking and forced labor in 2017. Although more investigation has been taking place in this area, it has not led to any convictions in the past two years.
