Widespread power outages in the absence of emergency capacity

AqualectraWILLEMSTAD – Various parts of the island were affected by power outage during the afternoon hours. The cause was insufficient capacity, according to utility company Aqualectra. In a press statement, the company indicated the various factors which led to the massive power outage.

Two machines of the plant at the Dokweg were in maintenance as well as a machine at the refinery plant. The machines at the Mundo Nobo plant were running at maximum capacity. Then this afternoon Aggreko machinery had to undergo urgent maintenance, which caused a shortage of 30 MW. The company did not have sufficient spare capacity in the absence of wind mills which could not produce power since there was no wind.

There was power outage in Gosieweg, Brievengat, Zapateer, Bonam, Santa Rosa, Montanja, Seru Lora, Juliana Dorp, Greater Willemstad, Seru Fortuna, Sta.Maria área, Mahuma, Good Hoop, Suffisant, Muizenberg, Brievengat, Schelpwijk, Trai Seru, Jongbloed, Groot Kwartier, Salina, Vredenberg, Dominguito, Koraalspecht, Janwe, Zuurzak, Jan Thiel and Zeelandia.
