Wilson: ‘Adopted changes at GOG are not enough’

GOGWILLEMSTAD – Working conditions at the Juvenile Detention Center (GOG) have not improved. This is according to Gregory Wilson of the ABVO union. Contrary to what has been indicated, the staff is working in appalling conditions, according to Wilson. There is no safety at the working place and there is not enough lighting around the buildings. This is a dangerous situation.

Wilson and the president of the union visited the institution two weeks ago to see the state of progress and the improvements the management was suppose the make. “The president was very surprised and I do not mean in a positive way,” Wilson said. “We have seen that there is work being done on the lighting around the facility and that there is more staff during evening shifts, but that is not enough,” according to Wilson.

“There is still much to be done with the problems surrounding the toilets, the job descriptions and protection of the personnel. The management must pay attention to these issues. If they don’t take care of these problems we will continue to put pressure on them. We will be back soon at the GOG to see how the management is resolving these issues,” Wilson stated.
