Beatrix signs Act of Abdication at 10:00 am

CrowningWILLEMSTAD , AMSTERDAM –  On April 30, Queen Beatrix will sign the Act of Abdication at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam between 10:00 and 10:30 am in the presence of her family, the Chairmen of the Senate and the House, the Minister and the Ministers Plenipotentiary of Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten.

Afterwards Beatrix, who becomes from that moment on princess, and King Willem-Alexander will give a speech on the balcony of the palace. Máxima lso, at that time already queen, is present. Then  Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia, her sisters princesses Alexia and Ariane will join them on the balcony.

After 14:00 hours, Willem-Alexander will be sworn in and inaugurated in the New Church during a so-called joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives, where he gives a speech and oath. Then, the chairman of the meeting, Fred de Graaf, gives a speech.


The MP’s and delegates from the parliaments of Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten can then take the oath or affirmation to the new king. The last official activity around the throne change is a reception for authorities and MP’s in the Royal Palace between 16:30 and 17:30.
