Curacao and Venezuela Customs to discuss cooperation

Curacao CustomsWILLEMSTAD - The customs of both Curaçao and Venezuela will meet this week to discuss the improvement of cooperation between the two countries.

According to a source, representatives of the Aruba and Bonaire customs will also participate in the meeting which will be held on May 3.

According to a spokesman for Customs Curaçao, they are doing their best to check the import of goods. “We are dependent on Venezuela to ensure, for example, that the documents are authentic. By working together more closely, you can tackle this. When it comes to European goods, customs know for example what kind of certificate and accompanying numbers are required.”

The meeting is a follow-up to the meeting that was held in Aruba this year in January after Venezuela had closed the borders for air and maritime traffic with the ABC islands. At the time, the South American country accused the islands of cooperating in smuggling.
