Farewell to Helmin Magno Wiels

Funeral WielsWILLEMSTAD – There were many emotional members of Parliament present this morning during the farewell to the murdered political leader, Helmin Magno Wiels. The funeral procession left around 10:30 under police escort from the funeral home. Arriving at the Parliament building, officers carried the coffin to the door, six politicians took then the coffin.

Ivar Asjes, Alex Rosaria, Melvin Cijntje, Humphrey Davelaar, Glenn Sulvaran and Jaime Cordoba carried the coffin into the room. President of Parliament, Mike Franco opened the ceremony with a speech. Then came outgoing Prime Minister Daniel Hodge and gave a speech. He was visibly very emotional. Afterwards the leaders of each Parliament factions had the opportunity to express themselves.

Present were all the members of Parliament, the Government of Curacao, Dutch Minister Ronald Plasterk, Governor of Curacao, Adele van der Pluijm-Vrede and the Aruban Prime Minister, Mike Eman.

After the solemn meeting, the funeral procession then continued to the Sport Center where the community of Curacao will have the opportunity to bid farewell to the political leader.
