Government has to act now regarding Ramsar areas
WILLEMSTAD - Klein Curaçao has recently become a Ramsar area. These are areas that are of particular value to ecology, especially nature.
The appointment of Klein Curacao to Ramsar area currently has few consequences. This is according to Michelle Da Costa Gomez, Ecology teacher. “The idea is for the government to start working on the necessary legislation to protect this area.”
Sint Michiels and Malpais are also examples of Ramsar areas, but according to Da Costa Gomez you don’t see much of care and management.
Klein Curaçao is especially important for turtles. Because the number of long beaches on which turtles can be found is decreasing, a place like Klein Curacao is important.
