Minister Navarro must rectify declaration against Schotte

NavarroWILLEMSTAD - Within 2 days the Minister of Justice Nelson Navarro must rectify a statement he made about former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte. On July 24, Navarro spoke at a local radio station about the murder of the politician Helmin Wiels. He then said, "If anything happens to me, then Schotte will be responsible." Schotte found that Navarro had unfairly linked him to murder of the late political leader who was assassinated on May 5, 2013.

The court in Curacao spoke about a "serious charge" for which Navarro has no evidence. He must be prepared to read a rectification on the radio station where he did the interview.

Schotte wanted a sum of 35,000 guilders (about 20,000 dollars) in damages. The judge did not agree with that demand.
