Asscher requires endorsement of “participation agreement”

AsscherTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – The Dutch Minister Asscher requires all immigrants that they recognize the Dutch Constitution and the fundamental rights and duties. The Dutch newspaper “De Volkskrant” says that the Minister wants to settle with a participation agreement. All foreigners and immigrants from the former Dutch Antilles and Aruba, who wants to settle in the Netherlands would have to sign it.

Asscher is next to Minister of Social Affairs also responsible for the Integration. In the existing integration course it is all about language and practical knowledge. With the participation agreement you let the people know that they have to accept Dutch values, for example in respect of gay men, women and Jews. The Minister believes that people are still too lax about the Dutch norms and values. He wants to be “warm and loving” but also “strict and clear” with this new integration policy.
