Atacho: “Decision to reduce the role of governor in (in) formation is serious”

Pedro AtachoWILLEMSTAD - The motion adopted by the majority of Parliament recently to limit the political role of the governor in the formation process of a government cannot be easily set aside.

This is according to former President of Parliament and former ‘formateur’ Pedro Atacho. The group of 12 Members of Parliament, the opposition did not participate in the debate, adopted a motion stating that an ‘informateur’ should be appointed by the Parliament and not the Governor. According to Atacho, it is also logical that the Parliament, which is elected by the people, determines who will try to form a government.

This is now the case in the Netherlands. The Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament has been responsible for appointing an ‘informateur’ since 2012. Before that, this was the role of the King or Queen.

Atacho also said that if a new majority wants to reverse the decision made by the group of 12 then a new motion must be adopted.
