Cijntje: ‘Murder of Helmin Wiels represented an all time low in 2013’

Melvin CijntjeWILLEMSTAD – For the current faction leader of the political party Pueblo Soberano (PS), Melvin Cijntje, the assassination of his political leader represented an all time low for the year 2013.  “Besides that tragic incident everything else was neutral without any real highlights,” Cijntje indicated.

If he really needs to call a highlight that is probably the groundbreaking for the construction of the new hospital in the downtown area of Otrabanda. “The problem is that we have been discussing the location of the hospital for too long. Now we have finally decided that it will be in Otrabanda.” The focus for 2014 should be, according to Cijntje, on crime. Crime should be controlled. “If we can’t achieve this, then we cannot do anything else in the community. If there is no peace within the community, we can forget everything.”

Cijntje knows exactly how it should be done: first tackle petty crime and then the big crime. The faction leader: “I know of no country in the world which can control big crimes without first tackling petty crime. We must start with the little things.”

Cijntje has his doubts whether this will actually be accomplished in 2014. According to him, it is not so much up to the Ministers to win the battle against crime, but to their advisors. “These are the same people who for decades have been doing the same things with no results. It's the same old stuff as twenty years ago. They have to come up with something new if they want to achieve a different result. If they can achieve something good for the community they would have done it already. I am not an optimist, but a realist.”
