Cooper understands pressure Venezuela in Carvajal case

Charles CooperWILLEMSTAD – Member of the opposition party MAN and also a Member of Parliament, Charles Cooper, indicated, during a radio interview, that he understands why Venezuela had to put pressure for the Netherlands to release their diplomat in Aruba, who was arrested and released. Cooper also thinks that the Netherlands was not careful enough to protect Curaçao’s interest in this issue, especially the good relations the island has with the South American country, who also happens to be the Dutch Kingdom’s largest neighboring country.

“I think the decision made by the Netherlands to release Carvajal was a good decision. I can understand the pressure of Venezuela. If someone is a diplomat and is arrested, then you have to go do everything possible to make she that person is released.”

Venezuela threatened to close the refinery if the Venezuelan drug suspect Hugo Carvajal was not released. The South American country was trying to exercise pressure on the Netherlands threatening with economic sanctions. This is according to the United States in a declaration yesterday.
