Curaçao celebrates Flag and Anthem Day

FlagWILLEMSTAD - During the celebration of Curaçao Flag and Anthem Day, the Minister of Culture, Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé has asked for all that are doing positive things for the island to continue to shine.

The Minister pointed out that the island is now at a crossroad to choose between right and wrong. “Let us choose what is right to create a good Curaçao for us all!”

Member of Parliament for MFK, Gilmar Pisas said during the solemn meeting of Parliament that without unity nothing can be done on this island. “We cannot create a nation if we are not one.”

Pisas used the Curaçao Soccer Team as an example. “They have shown us that we can come together and be one. This is what our flag stands for. We have celebrated this victory as one nation. The sad thing is that when our sports champions are doing their utmost to bring the people of this island together, we as politicians continue to attack each other. It’s time for us to show political maturity and work to unite our people,” said the former Prime Minister.

The national flag of Curaçao was adopted on June 2, 1984. The anniversary of this event is celebrated as a public holiday known as National Flag and Anthem Day.
