Curaçao is deporting more Venezuelans than ever before
WILLEMSTAD - More and more Venezuelans apply for asylum in Curaçao. More and more are also being sent back. In 2017, this involved 200 asylum applications via UNHCR, the United Nations refugee organization and more than 1,000 expulsions by the police and immigration of Curaçao.
Curaçao has no asylum procedure, which is why everything goes through UNHCR. The procedure is slow, the only Syrian refugee who ended up in Curaçao two years ago is still waiting for his status.
