Curaçao wants more than 300 million in loan from The Netherlands

Minister PlasterkWILLEMSTAD - Curaçao currently has the highest outstanding (guarantee) loan compared to Aruba and St. Maarten. In a summary of the Netherlands one can see that Curaçao has more than 1.6 billion guilders in loans. This is indicated in a second letter from Minister Ronald Plasterk of Kingdom Relations.

Part of the debt was restructured during the transition process of the constitutional relations of the Kingdom. Sint Maarten had till 10/10/10 a debt of 295 million. Aruba has a loan of 18.7 million euros. Plasterk had, during the General Meeting with the Parliamentary Standing Committee Kingdom Relations last month, agreed to provide an overview on current and pending loans of Curaçao, Sint Maarten and Aruba.

Curacao submitted a loan application to the Committee for Financial Supervision (CFT) last year for 60 million guilders for investments in the road network and the socio-economic and educational infrastructure.

In addition, Curacao had submitted a loan request for scrutiny by the CFT. It is a loan of 250 million guilders for the construction of the new hospital. “CFT gave a positive advice on this loan request,” Plasterk wrote in his letter. “The Countries have not implemented the loan application yet. The expectation is that they will give feedback on this request on short term.”
