FAS put pressure to prosecute Schotte

Gerrit SchotteWILLEMSTAD - Fundashon Akshon Sivil, ‘Civil Action Foundation’ (FAS) has filed a complaint with the Court of Justice against the Public Prosecutor (OM) for failure to adequately handle complaints. FAS filed charges against former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte and former Ministers Carlos Monk and Elmer Wilsoe. The complaints are a year old.

So far, there were no criminal prosecutions. A civil inquiry proceeding was initiated into possible mismanagement in public companies. This is not sufficient for the FAS.

Article 15

The interest group suspects that the trio has committed money laundering, bribery, malfeasance and infringement of the finance ordinance political parties. FAS refers in its complaint to Article 15 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. This article gives the possibility to enforce the Public prosecution through the Court of Justice. FAS wants clarity on eventual criminal cases and punishments worthy of the actions of the former ministers.

Criminal investigation

Last year the OM indicated that they wanted to wait for the results of the civil survey. The action group considers that there is far too much time spent on this case and that the prosecution should simultaneously begin a criminal investigation into these allegations. According to the group the complaints were substantiated with evidence. Especially since Schotte is politically active, it is in the interest of Curacao that the OM provides clarity as soon as possible .
