Final report committee Pretu submitted

Nelson NavarroWILLEMSTAD – The final report of the Committee, which was appointed to inquire about the situation surrounding the suicide of the main suspect in the murder of the politician Helmin Wiels, was submitted to the Minister of Justice.  The committee was headed by former Minister of Justice, Suzanne ‘Suzy’ Camelia-Römer.

That report should have been submitted some time back, but the committee was working on some important details. According to the Minister, Members of Parliament will receive the report also.

The committee was in charge of an administrative investigation into the death of Luigi Florentina alias Pretu in his cell in Barber.

The preliminary report indicated that there was no inspection of the cell before and during night time. The police had also lied about certain aspects related to the death of the man.

Thus, it turns out that Pretu that night was not monitored every hour, such as the police chief said during a press conference. He was not checked in for at least three hours.

This is a clear indication that the police lied and that Police Chief Marlon Wernet and the Minister have received the wrong information.

In addition, the same report also showed that the chaos surrounding the functions within the police and the failure of the Public Prosecution did not lead to death of the suspect.
