Financial limits for Government officials

ParliamentWILLEMSTAD – The Parliament approved a bill presented by political party PAIS yesterday with 11 votes for and 10 against, to create a public registry for civil servants. The register must include which government official are authorized to conclude agreements with financial consequences.

Furthermore, the register should also indicate what type of agreements the official can make and the maximum amount which is involved. Based on this register, in the future a Minister cannot reach an agreement with financial consequences without being authorized by the Governor first.

This proposal is a consequence of the disastrous financial policy of the Government headed by former Prime Minister Schotte. According to the members of Parliament, this should not happen again. These bill proposals are to prevent Ministers to reach agreements which could have negative consequence on the budget of the Government.
