Finding a solution to the ‘free movers’ problem

KMar BRON KABINET VAN CURAÇAOWILLEMSTAD - Recently, the team at the Royal Military Operation Management (KMar) in charge of the Caribbean area visited the Minister Plenipotentiary of Curaçao, Mrs. Marvelyne Wiels.

The free mover’s problem is back in trend. Free movers are young people from Curaçao (and the rest of islands in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom) that come to the Netherlands for training (especially on MBO level) on an independent basis. They lack social and emotional preparation and have a poor command of the Dutch language, which very often leads to the discontinuation of their education and the loss of their Dutch student loan after which they literally end up on the streets.

The Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary of Curaçao is currently brainstorming with different (social) partners, including the KMar, about solutions to the issue of the free movers from Curaçao.
