FKP: “Minister Francisca lacking in rent subsidies”

FKPWILLEMSTAD - Minister Jean - Marie Francisca is failing in her policy on rent subsidies for the government housing foundation FKP. This is according to the FKP’s director Arthur Con in response to the recently published report of the General Audit Committee Curacao (ARC) on problems in the construction of social housing.

According to the report, there is no legal basis for the 600 thousand guilders (of the total amount of one million guilders per month) which FKP declares on rent subsidies from the government.

According to Con, the commitments made by Francisca in January, all failed so far. “The minister was supposed to arrange the funds for the FKP homes through a supplementary budget. We are trying to get in contact with her, but that is still not working,” Con said. Also, the formalization of the management agreement is still not done yet, according to the Director. The funds for the financing of the maintenance of the FKP houses are set in this management agreement.

The ARC indicated that there is no legal basis for the amount of 600 thousand guilders. “This is not true,”Con said. “The basis is there because all of our accounts are audited.” The Director admits that there is no formal agreement with the government. Con believes that it is time for the management agreement to be formalized. According to Con, there is a good cooperation between the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning and the FKP. This thanks to the leader of the PNP party and MP Humphrey Davelaar.
