Girigorie: Violation of human rights more in neighboring countries than in Curaçao

Quincy-GirigorieWILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie disputes that the illegal immigration problem in Curaçao is more complex than on Aruba. During his recent visit to our neighboring island, he and his Aruban colleague of Justice Andin Bikker spoke about illegal immigrants because both islands are facing the same problems.

Aruba does have a refugee treaty while Curaçao still does not have it. Another big difference is that Curaçao has two critical reports on human rights organizations and Aruba does not. According to Girigorie, this is because Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have chosen to do a research in Curaçao.

The neighboring countries would, according to Girigorie, violate human rights far more than Curaçao.
