Government looks at minimum wage indexing

Curacao statisticsWILLEMSTAD – The Council of Ministers will talk tomorrow during their weekly meeting about a possible adjustment of the minimum wage, which should be increased because of the increase in the cost of living in Curacao. This is according to the Minister of Social and Labor Affairs, Mrs. Jean-Marie Francisca. The Government wants to see first whether an increase is possible in the current economic situation.

Civil servants and pensioners did not see their income being indexed this year. The Department of Social Affairs says that they will not index the minimum wage until they receive a positive advice from the Social Economic Council (SER).
