Government of Curaçao guarantees enough fuel

Prime MinisterWILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao guarantees that there will be sufficient fuel on the island.

In this way, the government reacts to the fact that the American company ConocoPhillips has seized properties of the Venezuelan state-owned oil company PdVSA in Curaçao, Bonaire and St. Eustatius and the assets of companies that do business with PdVSA.

ConocoPhillips is trying to get 2 billion dollars back from PdVSA because of a forced nationalization in 2007. PdVSA decided then a few days ago to send no oil to the refinery on the island. This caused a commotion.

The government says that the country is prepared for problems with the supply of fuels. There is a reserve stock and there are agreements on emergency deliveries with other international companies. The government guarantees the availability of petrol, diesel, gas and kerosene, among other things, said Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath. Fuel is also being delivered to Bonaire, according to the oil distribution company Curoil.
