Helicopters will also be used in the fight against crime

HelicopterWILLEMSTAD - Besides the drone which was deployed to combat crime, the police will also deploy helicopters in cooperation with the customs this year.

This was announced by the spokesman of the Minister of Justice, Mr. Humphrey Josefa to the media.

Last Sunday, the Public Prosecution announced that the police and the Department of Justice will deploy the unmanned aircraft called “Raven” in the fight against the rising crime on the island.

The spokesman said that this drone has been already operational and that results are expected soon.

Josefa also indicated that helicopters will be deployed to help tackle the rising crime on the island.

The Ministry of Justice just received all the Terms of Reference (ToR) from the police. Now we still need the Customs ToR and then the process of public procurement could be set in motion. Although there is still a long ways to go, Josefa expects the helicopters will be used this year.

“We will start with one, with the possibility of expansion,” Mr. Josefa declared.
