Issuance of Dutch passports to Dominicans rejected

KonketWILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Government Policy, Planning and Services Armin Konket confirms that there are problems with issuing a passport. The Member of Parliament for PAR, Ana Maria Pauletta asked a few weeks ago about Dutch people who applied for a new passport and did not get them.

That's right, Konket says in an interview.

Issuance of passports is a Kingdom matter, the Curacao government operates exclusively as a front office for its handling. According to the Minister, the problem is with the Dominicans who obtained the Dutch citizenship in 2003. When handling the required documents, the officials discovered that in some cases these were false.

The reason for not issuing a passport could also mean that the Dutch citizenship of these people can be taken away and they will become stateless but the Minister did not want to comment on that.
