Kingdom Conference: ‘Positive and hopeful’

Kingdom conferenceORANJESTAD, WILLEMSTAD – The Prime Minister of Curacao, Ivar Asjes is very satisfied with the results of the Kingdom Conference, which was held in Aruba this week.

He speaks of a productive, effective, and positive conference. On the final signed statement of the second Kingdom Conference held since 10-10-10, it stated that Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Aruba and the Netherlands want to strengthen ties within the Kingdom.

During the conference, the following items were on the agenda: economic cooperation, protection of children, cohesion within the Kingdom, small countries face major challenges, dispute arbitration within the Kingdom, and the anchoring of the termination right to the consensus state laws within the statute. That last point was added by Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Premier Ivar Asjes emphasized in his opening speech that the termination right to the consensus state laws within the statute is an important point for Curacao, who wants to have cancellation right.

At the end of the discussion he told the media that he was delighted with the outcome and that he had achieved what he had in mind. Finally, it was agreed that Curaçao  will host the third edition of the Kingdom Conference in 2015.
