Konket: “Supreme Electoral Council to become independent”

KonketWILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Government Policy, Planning and Service (BPD), Armin Konket has announced the initiation of the project to make the Supreme Electoral Council (SEC) and independent organization.

In cooperation with the current Supreme Electoral Council and the Policy Organization of the Ministry of BPD, a policy memorandum is being drafted that will start the process which will lead to an independent SEC.

Since the beginning of February last year, a bill proposal has been presented to the Council of State. This was a combined proposal consisting of an initiative act of the former government party PAIS and a government proposal.

According to Konket, this bill is used as a guideline, but a number of adjustments have been made, including the ban on making a so-called voice message and a “selfie” at the polling station at the time of voting.

Konket wants to receive the policy memorandum for an independent SEC by September 15.
