Leeflang: “Ten million guilders for 45 police cars, how can that be?”

Omayra LeeflangWILLEMSTAD - There is a commotion on the purchase of 45 police cars for allegedly ten million guilders (5.7 million dollars). Independent Member of Parliament, Omayra Leeflang doubts about this purchase and wants answers from the Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro.

Leeflang: “I want clarification on this matter. Nothing is known about a public procurement. Navarro said in an interview with Radio Direct that ten of these 45 cars are special police cars, but I did not get an answer to my question. He does not address my question about the public tender.” According to Leeflang, the government is obligated to have a public tender if the expense of a project is above 5.000 guilders.

The 45 new cars seem to partly replace older police cars. “I have heard from our own sources that fourteen cars will be removed from circulation in the first quarter of 2014. This can have a negative effect on the functioning of the police. I await his reaction,” the parliamentarian indicated.
