Lucille George Wout is sworn in today

Lucille George-WoutTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - Lucille Andrea George-Wout is the first female governor of the island starting today. Today she will be sworn in by the King of the Dutch Kingdom, Hiss Majesty King Willem Alexander. In mid-November, her governorship will be confirmed in a public meeting of the Parliament of Curacao.

George-Wout officially replaces former Governor Fritz Goedgedrag, who resigned last year. Goedgedrag was replaced by Acting Governor Mrs. Adele van der Pluijm-Vrede.

Lucille George-Wout was the first female president of the Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles. She is characterized as the ‘iron woman’ of Curacao for her strong character and no nonsense attitude.
