MAN wants Emsley Tromp inactive

Partido-MAN1WILLEMSTAD – Opposition party MAN wants the director of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS), Emsley Tromp, inactive from his position to give space for an investigation by the Court of Auditors to the affairs of the bank. “There are several charges on the table against Tromp, why won’t the Public Prosecution intervene in this case?” MAN member Charles Cooper wonders.

Cooper refers to the rumor that Tromp has granted utility company Aqualectra bonds amounting to 300 million guilders and thereby acted as both agent and buyer of the bonds. According to the banking status a bank manager cannot act as an agent. Since the auditors did not receive answers from the bank on this issue, it cannot be said for certain whether the bank has actually acted as an agent. “If it turns out that this is true, then we are dealing with a criminal offense,” Cooper said.

It was also noted, from the auditor’s report, that both the bank and the then Minister of Finance did not cooperate with the investigation. According to the MAN this report only calls for even more questions.

When asked why MAN has waited so long to speak on this issue, Cooper answered that it was a chaos in Curacao, which has put this report on the backburner. “The party wants a parliamentary meeting on this issue as soon as possible,” Cooper declared.
