Negotiations with Guangdong Zhenrong progressing steadily; possible agreement by the end of the month

Rhuggenaath2WILLEMSTAD - According to the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Eugene Rhuggenaath, the negotiations with the Chinese State Company Guangdong Zhenrong Energy are progressing steadily and the parties have agreed on several important issues which are mentioned in the addendum that is currently being discussed. The parties, therefore, hope that they can have an agreement by the end of this months.

Rhuggenaath indicated that the parties are discussing the details. They even have concrete dates for some of the points in the addendum. The Premier also confirmed that soon he will travel to China to see the situation personally. These negotiations are part of his responsibility as Prime Minister.

Initially, the Chinese delegation did not agree to the changes, especially because these would delay the project. But the new coalition has considered, in consultation with experts, that there are several parts of the agreement that do not give Curaçao enough guarantee. In other words, they can put Curaçao in a tough situation if these points are not more specified.

This is why the Curaçao delegation has indicated its concerns in a so-called addendum which has become an official part of the agreement. The Premier indicated that a representative of the Chinese company was on the island to take about these changes.
