New Government Curacao stands before heavy task

WILLEMSTAD - "The voters have spoken. Which party will lead the government is yet to be seen. It is clear that the government stands before a tough challenge."

That is according to a spokesman for the Interior Ministry of the Netherlands in response to the Curaçao elections. The Department notes that Curaçao has major financial and economic problems.

''And there is also a task to contradictions in society to bridge, from the election campaign and results have emerged," said the spokesman.

Curaçao has opted for independence. That is according to the member of parliament for SP  Ronald van Raak. Also according to the PVV, the result means that the Netherlands can say goodbye to Curacao.

Netherlands could no longer work with the MFK of former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte, because of connections that the party has with the underworld, Van Raak said. The Pueblo Soberano, of Helmin Wiels, wants independence from the Netherlands. The SP has long been very critical of alleged corruption and fraud in Curaçao.
