No decision yet on minimum wage

Jean Marie FranciscaWILLEMSTAD – The Council of Ministers has not taken any decision regarding a possible indexation of the minimum wage in Curaçao. During their weekly meeting it was decided to seek advice from the Social Economic Council (SER), as contained in the Minimum Wages Ordinance. It is not known when this report will be ready and when it will be taken into consideration by the Ministers.

In a press release earlier this week, Minister Jeanne-Marie Francisca (Social Development, Labor and Welfare) stated that the Council of Ministers was going to discuss this subject during their weekly meeting.

The Minister stressed at the time that they need to ascertain whether it is appropriate to index the minimum wage.

But during their Saturday meeting, the coalition party Pueblo Soberano (PS) through its MP Jaime Cordoba declared that no one, especially the people who have to live on a minimum wage, needs to be concerned.

Cordoba stressed that the indexation of the minimum wage is coming.
