Schotte and his ministers have been detained in the government building Fort Amsterdam in Willemstad and say they will stay there until the elections on October 19. They are defending, in their own way,  democracy and called on countries in the region to support them.

The Cabinet of Schotte has resigned since 3 August, some parliamentarians from Schotte's coalition switched, so that the government could no longer rely on a majority.

The opposition demanded Schotte’s resignation, but because the president of parliamentary did not call any public meeting, the majority could not be voted on. ON September 29, the governor appointed an interim government led by former Lieutenant-Governor Stanley Betrian.

Schotte says that he and his ministers will stay in the government building at Fort Amsterdam until the elections. Outside the building are still a few dozen supporters of Schotte.
